Drupal vs MediaWiki

October 14, 2006

I finally got around to setting up Batan City as a wiki. It was about 10 years ago that I first discussed the idea with Tatiana and Rosie. I took a long look at Drupal as an alternative CMS but the effort required to set up Drupal seemed so much greater than the MediaWiki package I finally opted for what I know (and love). I will probably regret it later – particularly when I want to start restricting editing rights… we will see.

I am interested in your thoughts ion the CMS, specifically Drupal, versus wiki question, 4+ years later.

I am interested because I have been running comp-arch.net using mediawiki, but am more and more frustrated by access control i
ssues. So I am considering switching to Drupal.

I have no doubt at all that what I really want is a wiki, with access control. But failing that.

(Yes, i know about twiki. In fact, I installed twikis at Intel and AMD primarily motivated by twiki access control. But I found twiki access control so deficient that i needed major hacks.)
